Everyone has heard of dementia…
But not everyone understands the unique and tailored care plan required to best navigate a dementia diagnosis as the loved one of a person living with dementia or a care facility tending to their needs.
At Dementia Detailing, our core purpose is to create tailored positive experiences for people living with dementia.
The individuality of each person living with dementia forms the essence of our services to them and that’s a key difference you won’t find with other service providers.
It is the Dementia Detailing difference and we’re very proud to explain it to you further.
So what is at the crux of the Dementia Detailing difference?
Other service providers may, in good faith, attempt to shape their offerings to match your personal needs.
But it’s unlikely these service providers operate in a pre-emptive manner like we do here at Dementia Detailing.
So what does it mean to be pre-emptive?
Current services for those living with dementia in the community and in residential care are largely reactive, which allows for little change to prevent agitated behaviour and frustration issues.
This ‘reactive’ approach to care falsely normalises the current status of dementia care systems and stagnates people’s understanding of what can be done to care more effectively for those living with dementia.
Being pre-emptive, as we are at Dementia Detailing, challenges this status quo.
So how do we manage this?
Read on to find out…
The services provided by Dementia Detailing are grounded in evidence-based facts about a brain that is dying from dementia.
Our services are aligned to harness the retained abilities of those living with dementia, which is a proactive and pre-emptive approach, rather than a reactive one.
Other service providers support and deliver services based on the declining or lost abilities of people living with dementia, but we aim to turn the tables on that, and instead focus on the parts that are still very much alive.
A good example of a retained ability that we integrate into our services is engaging the ability of people living with dementia to connect with music and rhythm – especially music that was significant to them throughout their lives.
A beautiful video example is this footage of a former Prima Ballerina who once danced with the New York Ballet, but now has advanced dementia.
She was given music from Swan Lake to listen to – watch how she responds.
The respect and dignity this woman receives from her carer is what every single person living with dementia deserves and what Dementia Detailing promises to help you provide – our key difference.
At Dementia Detailing, our business purpose is to create tailored positive experiences for people living with dementia, and is based on the key retained ability of emotional memory.
These are experiences that evoke an emotional reaction and can be triggered by any of the senses – including smells, tastes and touch.
Our services tap into the resource of the emotional memory in order to optimise the opportunity to trigger positive emotional memories and minimise the potential for triggering the negative.
We focus on what people living with dementia have still got, rather than what they have lost.
This is the Dementia Detailing difference.
This concept is summed up perfectly by the well-known Maya Angelou quote….
“…people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel…”
